In order to upgrade medical facilities for serious patients admitted at Lahore General Hospital (LGH), more High Dependency Units are being established so that such patients could be treated timely and effectively. This was informed by Professor Dr Tariq Sallahuddin, Principal PGMI and LGH while presiding over a meeting of hospital administration here Saturday.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has awarded commendatory certificates to 50 doctors, nurses, paramedics and lab technicians of LGH in recognition of great services they rendered during struggle against recent epidemic of dengue. He said this was great honour for the hospital and its staff should continue to serve the ailing humanity with the same spirit and zeal so that patients could be treated with enhanced standard of working.
It may be mentioned that during the epidemic, a number of 230,702 suspected dengue patients came to LGH, which was the biggest chunk of such patients at any hospital in the city. As many as 255,684 patients were tested for CBC and 6,258 patients went back to their homes after recovery. Presently only one dengue patient is under treatment at LGH.
The hospital administration took the initiatives like establishment of High Dependency Units, fixing a full block for dengue patients, cancellation of weekly off of staff and initiation of health education programme at LGH. One of the brilliant student nurses, Asma Kanwal, also lost her life while serving the dengue patients.
