AJK joins global campaign against gender abuse

Civil Society Organisations in Azad Kashmir on Friday urged the government to tighten laws to protect women from violence and discriminations. In order to create awareness among general masses about women rights a 16-day campaign is underway in Azad Kashmir since November 25.
The campaign will end on December 10, International Human Rights Day. The 16-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) has the theme "UNITE: Stop VAW, Now". In a joint press conference officials of various Non-governmental organisations working for the rights of people and human development including Press for Peace (PFP), Justice Foundation, Aurat Ki Awaz Forum - Yousaf Kashmiri, Imran Gillani, Sardar Javed Iqbal and Zahid Gillani vowed to continue joint efforts for the protection of women rights. They demanded that government should ensure safeguarding the basic human rights of all citizens including women and other disposed segments of the society.
