In recent media reports impression is being created that the government is favouring the fertiliser sector by providing natural gas after curtailment from power sector. Petroleum & Natural Resources Secretary Mohammad Ejaz has clarified that the government is under no pressure to favour the fertiliser sector.
He said that supply of natural gas will continue to avoid shortage of fertiliser in the market at this crucial time when farmers are in dire need. The Secretary also said that the Ministry of Water and Power is managing the power crisis, and supply of additional gas to the power sector at present is not needed. Issues with KESC regarding supply of gas were resolved amicably by the Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources recently.
Ejaz also clarified that gas supply to CNG stations in Islamabad region was resumed after the orders of the Islamabad High Court. As a result, gas pressure fluctuated, but necessary directions were given to SNGPL to manage the low pressure in gas supply.-PR
