In yet another development to step up accreditation process, Federal Secretary Science and Technology noted that Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) has accredited dozens of Testing and Calibration Labs.
"The PNAC has accredited as many as 49 Testing and Calibration Labs, 03 Certification Bodies, and 02 Inspection Bodies so far," these views were expressed by Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar during his inauguration remarks on "2nd Lab Assessors Course" on ISO - 15189, organised by PNAC in Collaboration with Norwegian Accreditation (NA) here on Friday. The secretary said, "According to UNIDO survey there were 334 labs in all four provinces including agriculture sector has 30, food 42, pharmaceutical 55 and textile and garments 72."
A fair estimate indicated there were around 500 Medical labs, while only six medical labs are near accreditation, he said, adding the response for its accreditation has remained poor as there is no legal requirement for acquiring accreditation. PNAC has taken in-time initiative to improve the Health Care Sector by launching Medical Labs Accreditation Scheme.
Leading medical laboratories were participated in a five days' 2nd Assessors Training Course including Shoukat Khanum Memorial Hospital, Lahore, Kalsoom International Hospitals, Islamabad, NCVI, National University of Science and Technology, Armed Institute of Pathology Rawalpindi, Excel lab Islamabad, Shifa International and Sindh lab Karachi, etc.-PR
