Vice-Chancellor Punjab University Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that we could not fight international and imperial powers unless we would be able to compete them in creation of new knowledge. He said this while addressing the earth breaking ceremony of new building of Punjab University College of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences (CS&AS) near Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre.
Professor Dr Khawaja Haris Rasheed, College Principal Professor Dr Shahid Kamal, heads of various departments and senior faculty members, Additional Treasurer Rao Sharif, Project Director Muhammad Ali and a large number of students participated in the ceremony. He said that our all the problems were the result of illiteracy in the country.
If the people were educated problems would be under control automatically. He urged the government to allocate at least four percent of GDP for the education. College Principal Professor Dr Shahid Kamal said that the college was proud of being the first institution of Pakistan in imparting education of statistics.
He said that some years ago, there was only a Master's programme at the college but since he had taken charge, BS Honours, MPhil and PhD programmes had also been started. He said that the number of students had increased to over 1200 and the capacity of current building was insufficient for quality education and research purposes. He thanked the Vice-Chancellor for providing land and funds for the new building. Project Director Muhammad Ali also briefed the participants about the building. Special prayers were also held for the development of country and the nation during the earth breaking of the building.
