Detention in Numaish Chowrangi incident: SHC issues notices to respondents

A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the respondents for December 8 in a constitutional petition filed against arrest of around 100 people following Numaish Chowrangi incident of December 27.
The petitioner Zeeshan Maqeem, making Home Secretary Sindh, Inspector General Police (IGP), DIGs of East and West zones and Station House Officers (SHOs) of 18 police stations respondents submitted that a rally on the eve of youm-e-shahadat of Hazrat Umer Farooq was taken out from Numaish Chowrangi to Tibet Centre on November 27. When the participants were returning back, some unknown miscreants fired upon them, as a result two scouts, performing duty at a camp, expired due to the bullet injures. Law and order situation was also created by the miscreants at the spot.
After the incident, he submitted, the police inspite of collecting evidences against the culprits started conducting raids and arrested 100 innocent people from their houses from different areas of the city and detained them illegally. He prayed the court to order respondents to produce the detenues before the court and also order a judicial inquiry into the incident.
