Scores of nurses from all public sector hospitals on Thursday staged a protest demonstration to press their demands of pay raise and promotions. The protesting nurses gathered and protested in front of the Model Town residence of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. They blocked the Ferozpur Road.
Holding banners and placards, they were chanting slogans against the Punjab government and health department authorities. On Friday, nurses stopped work at government hospitals and also protested in front of the Lahore Press Club. The PPP and PML-Q leaders Imtiaz Safder Warriach, Shaukat Basra, Sami Ullah Khan, Seema Kamran also joined protesting nurses to express solidarity with them.
PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Warriach slated the Punjab government for not resolving problems of nurses. The protesting nurses said the government had totally ignored them. They said that their colleagues in other districts of the Punjab had also observed complete strike in their hospitals and showed solidarity with them on Friday.
Moreover, the Punjab government has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan to look into the matter. The protesting nurses said if authorities concerned failed to address their problems, they would observe a complete strike.
