Chairman Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI)'s agriculture Committee Shahid Naseem Khokhar on Thursday hailed Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for increasing wheat support price from Rs 950 to 1,050 per 40 kg, and termed it a right decision taken at an appropriate time.
Talking to the newsmen he further said that it would help improve living standard of farmers and motivate them to step up efforts on way to bring about a green revolution in the country. He said it would encourage farmers to produce more wheat to not only meet local requirements but also to maintain surplus wheat to import.
Khokhar said this decision of the government would benefit 70 percent of the population living in the rural areas and also help grow more wheat and strengthen the national economy. He added that this would also discourage smuggling. He, however, underlined the need for steps to rationalise prices of the commodity for poor segments of society.
