Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Tuesday said that Nawaz Sharif has formally invited him to join the PML-N but he will announce his decision about future political plans in the public meeting at Ghotki on November 27. He said this while talking to reporters after his meeting with PML-N president Nawaz Sharif at the latter's Raiwind residence on Tuesday.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Syed Mamnoon Hussein and Ahsan Iqbal. Nawaz also had one-on-one meeting with Qureshi during which he formally asked the latter to join the PML-N.
This was the second round of talks between Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif and Qureshi had previously held a meeting after the latter resigned from the office of Foreign Minister in the wake of differences with the PPP leadership on the issue of CIA Contractor Raymond Davis.
He was of the view that as per his assessment the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had lost their efficacy and getting rid of present regime would be in the national interest. He said the present government had totally failed on all fronts. When asked that Imran Khan had claimed that Qureshi would join PTI, the former Foreign Minister said he would reply about this on November 27 at Ghotki.
However, he said he would meet Imran Khan prior to public meeting and invite him as well as his workers to participate in the meeting. He further said that present assemblies had lost their efficacy, hence, now all political parties should approach the masses. To a query, he said he had full confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, as he took important decisions in the larger national interest in the past. He demanded that Chief Justice Supreme Court should play his role in the formation of an independent Election Commission.
