Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Parliamentarian, media adviser to President Asif Zardari and the wife of Pakistan Ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani, Farah Ispahani, has announced that the pair could take legal action against Mansoor Ijaz in the secret memo controversy.
She expressed these views while talking to media outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday. She insisted that her husband was innocent and that he was ready to face any court. Ispahani said her husband wanted an inquiry and is ready for a forensic investigation into the matter. "Whatever guidance is given to us by our senior leadership we will take it but personally if the senior leadership allows us, we will go in for libel," she said.
She said she was ready to cooperate in the forensic investigation of Husain Haqqani's blackberry phone and computer. Ispahani said that Ambassador Haqqani was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and other officials to discuss the issue.
She said her husband assured President Asif Ali Zardari that he had not written the controversial memo whatsoever. Ispahani raised doubts over the credibility of Ijaz. "He's a foreign national who is blaming us and attacking Pakistan's democracy." She said that allegations by Mansoor Ijaz was a conspiracy "against democracy in Pakistan". She said the probe needed to be conducted to ascertain for whom Ijaz was working.
She alleged that Ijaz was a conspirator and had been involved in many conspiracies against Pakistan in the past. She added that he had requested the US government to ban ISI. She said they would take this matter to Pakistani and US courts and the pair was ready for Pakistani and American courts because they had nothing to hide. Answering a question, she said that she didn't think any member of top leadership was involved in the matter.
