Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would take a decision on the memo issue, if anyone including Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan Ambassador to the United States, is found involved in the case. Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Sunday, he said the political situation was passing through difficult phase in the country, but ruled out possibility of martial law.
He said that Mansoor Ijaz was a man of Machiavellian character and he had been involved in conspiracies on national issues in the past.
Mukhtar said that Hussain Haqqani was a member of the prime minister's team and a bureaucrat could not be sacked abruptly, adding that conclusions could only be made after an explanation by Haqqani.
He said it would take some time to trace out the man behind the conspiracy and details of the issue would soon come to fore.
Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said there was no possibility of a military government in the country. "Let Nawaz Sharif try if he is keen to overthrow the government," he added.
