The Department of Museums and Archaeology, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has suspended rehabilitation work on the historic Sethi House in Mohallah Setthian, Peshawar City, sources told Business Recorder Saturday. The rehabilitation work on Sethi House, a century-old residence of the trade merchants of the city, was initiated under much trumpeted 'Sethi House Project'.
The house is a classic model, depicting the century-old art in the city, and an attractive place for both local and foreign tourists. The provincial government purchased the house for Rs 15 million from the owners, and rehabilitation work was launched with a fund of Rs 45 million. However, due to lack of release of funds the rehabilitation work on the project has been stopped. "Rehabilitation work on the project has been suspended due to unavailability of funds," an official of the Department said. He said that Rs 22 million is still required for completion of the project.
