PMA to observe two-hour strike: Withdrawal of cases against doctors demanded
Pakistan Medical Association Punjab in it's emergent provincial council meeting announced to observe 2 hours strike at all hospitals of 36 districts of Punjab on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The meeting was chaired by Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami.
The meeting urged government to withdraw cases against five doctors of Sheikh Zaid within 48 hours otherwise they would observe a complete strike in all hospitals of Punjab on Friday.
ICUs, CCUs and emergencies of all hospitals will work during strike and all critical patients would be provided complete medical treatment. The meeting was attended by 36 branches of PMA Punjab, Dr Tanveer Anwr, Dr Izhar Ahmed Ch from PMA Lahore, Dr Ghulam Shabbir D G Khan, Dr Mian Mazhar Ahmed Sahiwal, Dr Sakandar Warraich Sargodha, Dr Gulzar Ch Gujranwal, Dr Tariq Niazi Rawalpindi, Dr Shahnaz Imtiaz Jehlum, Dr Javed Khalid Vehari, Dr Naeem Akhter Okar, Dr Mqbool Alam Muzafargarh, Dr Javed Haider Joiya Borewala, Dr Rao Tayyab Bahawalnagar, YDA Shiekh Zaid, Society of Surgeons, CPSP, Private Hospital Association at PMA House Lahore.
The senior consultants, professors of various public hospitals of Lahore, including Sheikh Zaid Hospital attended the meeting. The house also resolved that the police officer who registered the 302 FIR in the presence of the healthcare commission Act 2010 be terminated.
The house also resolved that the administration of Sheikh Zaid Hospital should be directed to get an FIR registered against the culprits who attacked the hospital and harassed the staff. The PMA office-bearers further added that for the last 17 days the doctors of sheikh Zaid Hospital Lahore were on strike but the government had not bothered to resolve the issue and there were certain elements within the govt who were trying to mishandling the situation and creating unrest in the doctors community. A committee was also formed to decide about the further line of action.
