A German relief organisation, Geman Aid for Afghan Children (GAAC) has distributed relief goods amongst 2000 affected families of the devastated floods of 2010 in Madiyan, district Swat. The package was distributed through a specially established relief camp under the auspices of the relief organisation.
The relief items were included both food and non-food items like flour, pulses, rice, sugar, tea leafs, warm-clothes and quilts. The Country Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Engineer Alam Shahab has said that the relief package was distributed amongst the flood affectees living life below the poverty line. Those who were provided the relief were included people from Khawazakhela to Kaidaam.
The relief goods, he said have been distributed as recommendations and lists prepared by the local elders and volunteers of the organisation. Addressing the distribution ceremony, the Country Director, Engineer Alam Shahab read out a message of Reinhard Eroes, president of the organisation from Germany.
In his message, the president GAAC while expressing heartiest sympathies with the flood affectees of 2010 were also mentioned good well sentiments of Germans for the people of Pakistan.
In his message, Dr. Reinhard Eroes has reiterated his pledge for the continuation of assistance that the complete rehabilitation of the affectees.
The people of Germany, he said are very well aware of the problems of the Pakistanis in general and residents of the far-flung area of Kaidaam of district Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular and are constantly in touch with GAAC and wished to dispatch relief goods before the fall of winter, snowfall and land sliding in the area.
The president of the German relief organisation said that the distribution of the relief goods in the flood affectees through their own hands with their heartiest wish. But, engagements in Germany could not allow him to come to Pakistan.
However, he said that a meeting with the flood affectees is expected soon.
After hearing the message of the president GAAC the local elders present in the relief camp thanked the efforts of the people of Germany. They were of the view that they have heard the names of several relief organisations, but the performance exhibited by the German Aid for Afghan Children in the difficult time have no precedent.
The people of Swat, they said would never forget the cooperation of Germans. They said that the German relief organisation has stood by the people in every difficult time and keeping in view the problems of the poor and destitute it has provided the requirements of life at their door steps. They said that they are thankful to the people of Germany and their relief organisation.
