Member National Assembly and PML-N leader Mohammad Pervez Malik has strongly criticised the government for making huge increase in electricity tariff and termed it an inhuman decision. "People are already committing suicides because of poverty and unemployment and if government implemented its brutal decision, circumstances would be further ominous".
In a press statement he said that PPP government has not only utterly failed to solve the problems of masses but also added further the tribulations of Pakistani nation. He said that energy was a main source of development and electricity prices were highly correlated to the economic growth and hence the increase in electricity tariff would destroy everything.
Mohammad Pervez Malik said that country has been facing a huge energy deficit for the last few years. Massive load shedding has crippled the industrial activities, thousands industrial units have been closed down or relocated while millions of industrial workers have lost their jobs and instead of initiating any mega power projects the government remains busy in sucking the blood of the nation.
He said that electricity rates in Pakistan were already very high and posing massive challenges to make the industry internationally competitive. He said that with the increase in electricity tariff, industrial production cost would further rise and export-oriented industries would face more difficulties to compete in the international market with the competitors like China, India and Bangladesh who are caring their industries like beloved kids.
He said that electricity prices rise would badly affect the agriculture sector of Pakistan, which is the backbone of our economy and feeding more than 70 percent of the population. He said that despite cutting-off lavish expenditure, government continuously increasing the energy prices, which have touched the alarming situation but government is not showing sympathy with the Pakistani people and planned to put more fuel on fire. "The hike in electricity prices would lead trade, industry and common man towards the destruction", he added.
He said that present government came with the slogan of "roti, kapra aur makan" but doing quite otherwise and playing a role of IMF agent in Pakistan where the poverty level is far below the international standards. He said that persistent hike in energy prices is making the Pakistani exports uncompetitive that is avoiding poverty alleviation and unemployment in the country.
He said that consumers are receiving gigantic electricity bills as concerned departments have added various hidden charges in the bills. Now, the government wants to make people cry through increase in electricity bills. PML-N leader warned the government to avoid increase in power tariff as the people have not vigour to bear more burdens of government luxurious expenditures. He said that government should alter its brutal policies otherwise a revolution knocking the door.
