LHC disposes of contempt petition

Published Updated

The Lahore High Court (LHC) disposed of a contempt petition after the Prosecution Department informed the court that cases of 87 prosecutors have been referred to Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) for their confirmation in the light of criteria set by Supreme Court.
This was stated in a corresponding letter written to PPSC by prosecution secretary and a law officer presented the same before the court. The prosecution department had contented in its Intra Court Appeal (ICA) that the single judge had erred in sending their (petitioners) cases to PPSC as these prosecutors did not fall under the ambit of contract policy 2010.
It said the Supreme Court had also held that contractual prosecutors would work as stop-gap-arrangement, however, they could submit new applications for the post to be filled by PPSC through written exam and interviews. The department requested the court to set aside the order of the single bench.
