Punjab chief minister takes notice of poor cleanliness in government hospitals

Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken strict notice of poor cleanliness arrangement in certain government hospitals and directed that a comprehensive plan be formulated for maintaining cleanliness conditions in hospitals on permanent basis as besides provision of medical facilities, proper sanitary arrangements are also important in hospitals.
He directed secretary health to submit recommendations in this regard including establishment of a monitoring system. He further issued instructions for sending special teams to Faisalabad and Rawalpindi for reviewing the measures for eradication of dengue virus and provision of curative facilities to patients.
He was presiding over a special meeting of emergency committee to review measures for dengue control and availability of medical facilities to patients in hospitals, here Tuesday. Elected representatives, chief secretary, secretaries of various departments and experts were present on the occasion.
The chief minister said that Punjab government took timely and solid measures for copping the challenge of the worst outbreak of dengue virus in the history and every human effort was made in this regard. He said that every human life is precious, therefore, medicines and machinery were imported by air on emergency basis.
He said that Punjab bloodline project is a splendid scheme under which donors are getting themselves registered at special camps which is highly commendable. He said that more than 20,000 persons have been registered at these camps in the province. He said that this project will help in the supply of fresh and healthy blood to injured persons and the patients suffering from various diseases besides getting rid of 'blood mafia'. He said that assembly members should also contribute their share to this noble cause and get there selves registered for donating blood.
He said that the visits of professors and consultants to hospitals in the evening are a commendable step and senior doctors are now checking patients regularly in hospitals during evening hours. He directed that the process of including the topic regarding dengue in the syllabus be given a final shape at the earliest and the World Health Organisation should also be consulted in this regard.
He said that fogging and spray has been conducted in all towns a number of times and in future this exercise should be undertaken only at houses and other places where dengue larvae is detected. He said that the policy regarding the business of tyres should be formulated and recommendations should be submitted to him as early as possible.
Eulogising the performance of Director General LDA, Abdul Jabbar Shaheen regarding the sanitation and cleanliness arrangements in various hospitals, he said that if the same sense of responsibility is adopted these arrangements could be improved in all hospitals at a nominal cost.
Earlier, secretary health while giving a briefing regarding dengue situation in the province informed that the number of patients coming to hospitals has substantially reduced while the ratio of calls received on the help-line has also decreased. He said that training of doctors and nurses at teaching hospitals and Institute of Public Health is continuing. He informed that consultants visited 13 private and welfare hospitals on Monday and examined 147 patients.
Commissioner Lahore gave a detailed briefing regarding cleanliness situation in the city and performance of Wasa. Secretary food informed about the arrangements for cleanliness and eradication of dengue virus at hotels, restaurants and other eateries.
