The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief, Munawar Hassan, setting aside possibility of change in backdrop of PML-N 'Go, Zardari, Go' movement, said on Sunday that general elections would be held in time, after completion of the present government's five-year term.
Talking to media persons after attending Islamabad Family Festival-2011, organised by his party here, he said that he does not see any change in the backdrop of the anti-government rallies to pave the way for early elections. "Chances of elections and change of the government are not eminent", he said, adding that until President Zardari is in power there is no chance of a change in the country.
He said that it seems that general polls would be held in time, as the time of mid-term election has passed. About politics of rallies in the country, the JI chief said that PPP and MQM had always indulged in allegations against each other and now they are holding rallies in one another's favour.
He lamented that for the last 40 years, people of the country have been voting for political parties like PPP, PML-N and MQM, but these parties did not bring any positive change in the country. He stressed the need for a 'change', saying that the people should reject corrupt people in the forthcoming elections and change the society through right of vote.
Earlier, addressing the festival, he said that Islam does not prohibit recreational activities as it strengthenas the family bonds and helps exploring the hidden talent of youth in particular.
He said that the family system, given by Islam, is the best. "However, the flaws lie within us, as we have failed to fulfil the responsibilities under the system." He said that Pakistan was facing multiple challenges, and stressed the need of "putting our acts together" to strengthen the family system.
JI Islamabad leader and former MNA Aslam said that the festival was aimed at defeating the impression that Islam prohibits recreational activities. He said that youth of the country have immense potential and they demonstrated these in the festival.
Scores of families and residents of the twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the daylong 'Islamabad Family Festival- 2011' held here at Rose and Jasmine Garden, Aabpara, in which JI chief was the chief guest.
