Punjab University Department of French organised a lecture on "Sufism in Pakistan" here at the Department on Tuesday. In charge of the Department Dr Saleha Nazir, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Centre for South Asian Studies, CNRS-EHESS France Research Fellow Professor Dr Michel Boivin delivered a lecture on his recent research project related to Sufism in Sehwan Sharif. The research work has been published in October 2011 titled "Artifacts of Devotion:
Approaching Sufism through Material Culture". Dr Boivin is a distinguished scholar with double specialisation in Islamic Studies and contemporary history. He also heads an interdisciplinary study group working on Sehwan Sharif and is Director of the Centre of Social Sciences, Karachi.
While, Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran awarded a medal to university female student here in his office committee room, who won gold medal in Benazir Bhutto Shaheed 7th National Women Judo Championship. Director Institute of Business Administration Professor Dr M Ehsan Malik, Treasurer Dr Uzma Ikram, Director Sports Dr Zafar Rashid, Director Sports (Women) Shamsa Hashmi, Secretary Pakistan Karate Federation Shamim Ahmad Hashmi, Coach Karate Team Fayaz Feroz and Farhat Hussain Siddiqui were also present on the occasion. Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran also announced scholarships for the female karate players, who have also represented Higher Education Commission (HEC).
