District & Session Judge Lahore Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed, on Friday acquitted Moonis Elahi, son of former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, in National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam. At the time judgement was being announced, hundreds of PML-Q workers were present at the courtroom.
As the court announced the judgement the charged workers of PML-Q started chanting slogans in favour Moonis Elahi, court and justice. They declared the acquittal of their leader as victory of justice. Moonis was later taken to his house in shape of procession by party activists. Moonis was kept in a rest house declaring it sub jail. The court declaring Moonis innocent, observed that no charge of money laundering is established against the accused in NICL scam thus his application is accepted and he is acquitted in the case.
He court had reserved the judgement on October 5 after concluding the arguments. The court after announcing the judgement issued release order, directing the FIA authorities to release Moonis Elahi if he is not required in any other case. Moonis Elahi faced the NICL scam case for seven months and four days.
