Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has asked the senior doctors to revive old tradition of visits of consultants and professors in hospitals in the evening. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting regarding controlling mortality rate due to dengue virus here on Friday, disclosed an official.
The King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor, Chief Executive Officers of teaching hospitals and Medical Superintendents of the hospitals attended the meeting. Member National Assembly Khawaja Saad Rafique, Chief Secretary and Secretary Agriculture & Chairman Surveillance Committee for Dengue were also present on this occasion.
The CM said due to this step not only best treatment facilities would be available to the patients but it will also leave positive psychological effects on them. He also said the role displayed by the doctors during the drive against dengue is commendable and due to their round the clock efforts, lives of thousands of citizens were saved. "Although life and death is power of Almighty Allah, yet doctors should utilize all their professional abilities for overcoming the mortality rate due to dengue virus and evolve an emergency plan for next 30 days in this regard," he added.
According to him, Allah Almighty will definitely reward the doctors for serving the ailing humanity in this hour of trial, as due to their efforts, thousands of people recovered. Doctors got awareness regarding dengue and training in consultation with the Sri Lankan and Indonesian experts in the hospitals. High Dependency Units were set up for dengue patients, they are being looked after round the clock and doctors are playing the role of messiah in a real sense. Controlling the mortality rate due to dengue virus is utmost essential and all arrangements should be reviewed afresh in this regard and if any flaw is found anywhere, it should immediately be removed.
He urged the doctors to utilise all their energies for this purpose and added that senior doctors should sit together with the Punjab Chief Secretary and submit a comprehensive plan for the next 30 days that how mortality rate can be controlled. "Dengue is a new virus in Pakistan and our doctors had also little knowledge about it. However, the way they have got awareness and expertise from Sri Lankan and Indonesian experts within few days is laudable," he added.
He said there was a practice of visits of senior doctors to the hospitals in the evening, which the people are still remembering; due to the senior doctors, the patients become half-healthy psychologically. Thus, he stressed for reviving this tradition. Earlier, senior doctors while appreciating the steps of Punjab government for eradication of dengue virus said due to these steps, lives of thousands of people were saved. They also said they are making efforts round the clock for reducing the mortality rate; every life is precious and they are working with same passion and devotion.
