The Supreme Court Friday accepted a writ petition for hearing against Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari to succeed former PCB Chief Ijaz Butt, for illegal appointments at Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL). The Supreme Court has issued notices to federal government after admitting a plea for hearing against the newly-appointed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf for illegal appointments at ZTBL during his tenure as chairman.
Advocate Mian Abdul Rauf, who filed a petition on behalf of senior executive vice president ZTBL Mohammad Nadeem Chohan, requested the court to set aside the September 28, 2011, notification under which Ashraf was allowed to continue as president of the bank.
The federal government, through establishment secretary, State Bank of Pakistan and finance secretary, besides Ashraf, have been made respondents in the petition. Several annexures have also been attached with a view to substantiating the allegations levelled in the petition. The petitioner states Ashraf had made illegal appointment during his tenure as president. Citing an internal ZTBL audit report, the petition highlights "32 cases of illegal appointments".
