PIAF for setting up of power projects

Published Updated

Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has urged the federal government to notify and allow setting up of 500 MW power generation projects to the provincial governments as per the 18th Amendment. Chairman PIAF and Advisor to Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Sohail Lashari in a statement on Friday said that the provincial governments would have to complete power projects on priority basis.
Lashari welcomed the reports of the opening of Bhasha Dam Project and urged the government to complete the project on emergency basis. He said that there was no objection from any circle for the construction of Bhasha Dam as yet but the project was being delayed without any reason.
He said that the solution of power crisis lies in construction of big hydropower projects and reservoirs, as the country was blessed with huge water reservoirs. Cheap hydel electricity would decrease production cost which would help control inflation, he added. He said the manufacturers and exporters were unable to fulfil their foreign orders due to prolonged power cuts.
