Prosperity not possible without promotion of education: PU vice chancellor

Punjab University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that prosperity of any nation is not possible without promoting education and research. The Pakistani government should invest in research programmes in the country.
He expressed these views while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony of 5-day workshop on "Research Methodology & Development," organised by Fatima Memorial Medical College in collaboration with Noor Foundation Centre for Research & Consulting. Chief Executive Noor Foundation Centre for Research & Consulting Dr Haroon Ehsan, Chairperson Executive Committee Fatima Memorial System Dr Shahima Rehman and postgraduate trainee doctors from various colleges of Lahore were also present on the occasion.
VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said promotion of education had never been remained amongst the priorities of any single Pakistani government. He said the educational revolution is a must for national development. He said there was much talent and potential in our youth and it could be utilised to put the country on the path of progress.
He said the teachers should be role model for nation-builders to guide them in a right direction. Dr Mujahid Kamran said the universities' teachers, through their honesty and commitment with the work, could be an example for the teachers of schools and colleges. He stressed the need to provide low-priced books so that their access could be made possible to every body. He asked the doctors to do more research so that they could serve the society in a better way.
The vice-chancellor said Pakistan was only spending less than two percent, while the developed countries were spending five to seven percent of their GDP on education. He urged the national leadership to allocate at least four percent of GDP on education every year. He said the number of PhD teachers in Pakistan universities were 4000, which is far less than the advanced countries. Dr Haroon Ehsan said the presence of VC Dr Mujahid Kamran in the ceremony was a pride.
He appreciated the formation of "Dengue Research Group" by the VC to curb dengue virus. Later, the vice-chancellor distributed certificates among the participants of workshop. He also visited various departments, conference & lecture rooms and library of Fatima Medical College.
