Foundation for Rehabilitation and Education of Special Children (Fresh) marked its seventh foundation day with the launch of Remedial School System for students having learning problems in mainstream schools of country. Ashba Kamran, the Chief Operating Officer Fresh, cut the foundation cake along with dedicated and specially trained staff and school children. The management had also organised entertainment for the students on the occasion.
A good number of parents, social luminaries, academicians and psychiatrists also participated in the foundation day celebrations says a spokesman of the Foundation here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Kamran said the Remedial School caters for all school going children having specific or generalised learning barriers. She said it is now known that between 15 and 20 per cent of all school children has some form of learning barrier or difficulty, which prevents them from achieving their full academic potential.
Such children require full-time remediation, either for a limited period, or throughout their school careers. Remedial schools exist to cater for such children, she added. Mrs Kamran further elaborated that when a student enters the school system and discovers after a while that he/she has learning difficulties. She said such student take school work, as untidy and shows no sign of improvement in general. Majority of them have difficulty in learning to read, spell and write and a few also struggle to learn mathematics concepts.
She said these children suffer from the psychological problems including Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). COO Fresh said the Green Meadows Remedial School campuses in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Sargodha under the aegis of Fresh are providing state-of-the-art education and training in line with international standards. She also urged the philanthropists, corporate sector and the government to help Fresh in education and training of children with learning barriers.
