Like other parts of the globe, World Post Day was observed in Pakistan in an effort to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people's and businesses' everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.
Secretary Ministry of Postal Services and Director General Pakistan Post, Raja Ikram ul Haq addressing the ceremony held here in connection with the day, said that Pakistan Post traditionally celebrated the World Post Day hand in hand with Universal Postal Union (UPU) with a new resolve to provide postal services, financial services, customised e-services, logistics services to the customers meeting the demands of the technology driven competitive environment.
He said that Pakistan Post is emphasising in the use of new communication and information technologies to move beyond what is traditionally regarded as a its core postal business, keeping pace with the changing communications market.
"Pakistan Post celebrated 138th anniversary of UPU to further strengthen the mission and goals of the UPU" he said. Director General Pakistan Post hoisted UPU-flag in a ceremony organised in the Directorate General attended by senior officials including Additional Director General Pakistan Post Fazli Sattar Khana and others staff.
The message of Director General UPU, Edouard Dayan was also read out by Raja Ikram ul Haq. Similar simple UPU-flag hoisting ceremonies were also held in all postal circles and unites all our the country.
