Flour millers in the Philippines bought 30,000 tonnes of Australian wheat this week for February shipment, while Thai processors are seeking some 40,000 tonnes of US milling wheat for November shipment. Australian prime wheat to the Philippines was sold around $270 to $280 a tonne, free on board (FOB), and Australian hard wheat with 13 percent protein content at $330-$340 a tonne, traders said.
Australian prime wheat this week was quoted around $277 a tonne FOB, Australian hard wheat with 13 percent protein at $350 a tonne and Australian standard wheat at around $255 a tonne. Japan's farm ministry bought 79,701 tonnes of milling wheat from the United States in a tender on Thursday. It took 29,452 tonnes of white wheat, 28,370 tonnes of hard red winter and 21,879 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat.
In the feed grain business, Malaysia is seeking some 60,000 tonnes of mainly South American corn for November shipment, traders said. Separately, two groups South Korean feed makers bought a total of 121,000 tonnes of corn for feed production for late January arrivals in private deals.
But Taiwan's Maize Industry Procurement Association passed on a tender to buy up to 60,000 tonnes of corn from the United States or Brazil. Asian feed makers are also buying feed wheat from Australia to substitute expensive corn. Traders said some 15,000 tonnes of Australian feed wheat was traded this week in Southeast Asian at around $280 to $290 a tonne, C&F.
