The District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh has issued show cause notices to the officers of city district government Karachi including executive district officers (EDO) who are allegedly involved in malpractices and sought written explanation from them.
Business Recorder learnt that DCO has issued notices to some 120 officers after receiving complaints from various quarters. The notices have been served on the officers involved in misconduct aiming to redress the grievances of the public, Roshan Ali Shaikh, District Co-ordination Officers (DCO) Karachi told reporters.
He said he has decided to take strict action against the EDOs and Departmental Heads of City Government for not attending their office on time. "Final warning was issued to EDOs and departmental heads of city government after they failed to attend their office by 10am on Saturday."
He said more strict action will be taken against such officers after issuance of show cause notice. Roshan said that EDOs and Department Heads must observe punctuality in office timings as only then they could expect their subordinates to attend their duty on time. He said that attendance of staff working in different offices of city government Karachi being checked daily at 10am and action will be taken against the late comers. He noted that despite verbal instructions, the officials took the matter lightly believing it was an ordinary trend that had been practiced many times in past. The DCO said that he has issued strict directives to the officers not to leave their offices from 9am-1pm.
CDGK spokesman Bashir Khan Saddozai said that the notices were only issued to the EDOs while it would be the EDO of a department concerned to further seek explanation from his subordinate officials and would submit a report to the DCO with remarks and suggestion for onward departmental action. On the other hand, the DCO has imposed ban on all CDGK officials for communicating and sharing any information with the press. "It was a federal government decision that the CDGK has implemented in letter and spirit", the DCO said.
In this regard, the DCO said that arrangements are being made to facilitate the reporters of the press and media. It is noteworthy that the spokesman who has been assigned to share with the reporters the information required lacks proper information on time. However, officer inside CDGK said that there are information counters on ground floor where representatives of all departments concerned are available.
