Eigth Annual Fulbright and Humphrey Alumni Conference launched

Alumni from Pakistan's Fulbright programme - the largest in the world- gathered here on Friday to launch the 8th Annual Fulbright and Humphrey Alumni Conference, which is focusing on the role alumni play in promoting the socio-economic development of Pakistan.
In a testament to the conference's theme of "Giving Back" to Pakistan, a former Fulbright scholar, Thomas Miller, now the Minister Counsellor for Public Affairs of the US Embassy Islamabad delivered opening remarks. Alumni at the conference will participate in discussions on a broad range of issues, including child welfare, women's empowerment, sustainable development, health reforms, and regional stability.
"These alumni, by tackling tough social and development issues and working for the betterment of Pakistan, are making invaluable contributions to Pakistan," said Miller. "As a Fulbright alumni myself, I could not be prouder than to hear of their accomplishments and their continued commitment to giving back to Pakistan."
The Fulbright and Humphrey Programmes are educational and cultural exchange programmes funded and administered by the US Department of State. More than 4000 Pakistanis have participated in the Fulbright programme since it began in Pakistan in 1950. "USEFP, a bi-national commission, has been operating for 61 years now, in Pakistan, with a mission of promoting mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Pakistan through educational and cultural exchange - a mission that is more important now than ever," said USEFP Executive Director Rita Akhtar.-PR
