The newly elected body of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) led by its president Mian Anis Ahmad Sheikh took charge of the MCCI for year 2011-12. The president MCCI and Senior Vice President Khawaja Muhammad Hussain expressed their resolve to focus on finding solution to issues like energy crisis, high rate of mark-up and inflation.
They were addressing the annual general meeting of the MCCI, where election commissioner Khawaja Muhammad Abdullah formally announced the results of the election 2011. Newly elected President Mian Anis Ahmad Sheikh and Senior Vice President Khawaja Mohammad Hussain were elected unopposed.
Former President MCCI Shahid Naseem Khokhar presided over the meeting. Former Punjab Minister Khawaja Muhammad Jalaluddin Roomi, Ex-Chairman APBUMA, Mian Tanvir Sheikh former President of FPCCI, Khawaja Muhammad Yousuf Chairman of National Productivity Organisation (NPO) Former Presidents of MCCI Malik Asrar Awan, Mian Mughis Sheikh and Muhammad Shamim Khan were also present.
They vowed to follow the policies of their predecessors who set good traditions and put the MCCI on the right path. Khokhar presented a 12 pages performance report in which he stated that 2010-11 was the year of recession, crises and terrorism. Prolonged loadshedding of gas and electricity, increase in prices of petroleum products, dearness, high rate of mark-up plus bank spreads and inflation, target killings in Karachi, growing incidents of suicidal attacks and lawlessness had badly hit the businesses as well as industrial activities. He said that in spite of grim situation they continued their efforts for the survival of the industry and trade and raised voice for the cause of the business community. He said that their team tried its the best to meet the expectations of the member of the chamber.
He said that history of MCCI was limited to five decades. The MCCI introduced sincere and dedicated leadership, which had devoted its energies for the cause of business community. He paid rich tributes to former presidents of MCCI like Muhammad Saleem Khan Saddozai, Mian Farooq Ahmed Sheikh, Malik Bashir Ahmed Awan and Mian Maqbool Ahmed Sheikh who are no more with us anymore.
