Asma to attend new legal year ceremony

President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBA) Asma Jahangir will attend a ceremony at the Westminster Abbey, London to mark the commencement of the new legal year in England and Wales featuring Presidents of Bar Associations from 43 countries. The invitation is extended by the Lord Chancellor of England and Wales for series of events starting in the current week.
Other guests at the ceremony include the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, Judges, Queen's Counsel and members of the legal profession. After the ceremony, a breakfast will be hosted by the Lord Chancellor in the Houses of Parliament where senior legal officers in the British Government and members of the Diplomatic Service would be present. After series of events on October 4, Asma Jahangir will give a keynote speech at the Law Society on the topic "Pakistan - What now for the Lawyers' Movement?".
John Wotton, the President of the Law Society of England & Wales would also host a dinner for all the bars presidents where discussions over the similar challenges and issues would take place. Jahangir will be invited by the President of the Law Society and Chairman of the General Bar Council to present some closing remarks as a representative of the international guests at this occasion.
