The Special Drug Squad, headed by DIG Major Mubashar Ullah seized government's stolen medicines worth Rs 3.5 million from various private hospitals and medical stores and arrested 12 persons. The cases have been registered against the accused and investigation is under progress.
According to the details, government's medicines worth Rs 2 million were seized from a house at Ittefaq Pura in Badami Bagh area from where Syed Abbas Ali Shah and Syed Ilyas Ali Shah have been arrested. Similarly, government medicines worth Rs 1 million were recovered from the godowns of Messers SB Enterprises in Lohari Gate and Muhammad Shahid, Sherbaz Khan, Mirza Muhammad Akram and Muhammad Usman have been apprehended and a case has been registered.
Similarly, government medicines of Rs 0.2 million have been seized from Messers Iqbal Medical Store in front of main gate of Jinnah Hospital and Ehsaan Ullah Khan has been arrested. The same squad while conducting operation against pharmacies of private hospitals recovered government's medicines worth Rs 0.1 million from the pharmacy of Shama Hospital, Bagh Munshi Ladha and started investigation.
Abid Hussain, Syed Aslam Ali Shah and Ghulam Rasool have been arrested while medicines stolen from government hospitals worth Rs 92,000 have been seized from Jamil Hospital, Allama Iqbal Road Garhishahu and Mirza Muhammad Imran has been arrested. Similarly, stolen medicines of Rs 25,000 have been recovered from Ghulam Qadir of Messers Jamil Surgical Hospital Bhatti Gate and investigation is under way.
Major Mubashar Ullah said that on the instructions of the Chief Minister Punjab, stern action is being taken for checking the theft of government medicines and equipment and more raids will be conducted within next few days. He said that no leniency would be shown to those involved in this heinous crime. Member Provincial Assembly Kh. Salman Rafiq and Drug Inspector Shoukat Shah are also member of drug squad.
