Mohsin Aziz has been elected unopposed as central Chairman All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) for 2011-12. The newly-elected chairman Aptma is a renowned and seasoned businessman from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP). He has already served Aptma as central chairman in the past and is re-elected from the province of KP on the basis of rotation.
Scrutiny of the nomination papers for the Aptma offices held on Wednesday and the Businessmen Group candidates secured all Aptma offices unopposed as no nomination paper was filed against them. The Businessmen Group, like the previous year, has made a clean sweep of Aptma elections, as the 100 percent strength of the managing committee rests with this group.
The Businessmen Group is being led by Gohar Ejaz, Shahzad Ali Khan and S M Tanvir. Sheikh Muhammad Akbar and Tariq Saud are elected unopposed as Vice Chairman Punjab and Sindh-Balochistan region respectively. Aptma is the textile industry association and has regained strength as an association under the leadership of Gohar Ejaz, the outgoing chairman. His policies on industry issues would still remain the prime focus of new management throughout 2011-12.
The outgoing Chairman Gohar Ejaz had presented President Zardari a five-point agenda as a way forward for the textile industry in Pakistan. This presentation was made during the annual Aptma dinner held at the presidency in February this year. The five-point Aptma agenda includes free market mechanism, energy security, market access, globally competitive interest rate and end of the divide between policy and implementation for the textile industry to incur a billion-dollar investment every year. The Aptma Annual General Meeting (AGM) would take place on 30th September where a formal announcement regarding the success of Aptma office-bearers would be made.
