Works and Services department of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has initiated seven schemes which were stopped two years back due to what CDGK concerned described shortage of funds. The work on these schemes has now been started with reallocation of funds.
Sources inside CDGK told Business Recorder that funds allocated for the said schemes prior to this were embezzled with the connivance of contractors due to which it was decided to call a halt to schemes. Now the schemes have been initiated with reallocation of funds of Rs 1141.497 million.
These schemes include construction of road from Paracha Chowk to Northern Bypass, construction of roads in block 1, 2, 3, 4 and F of scheme 5 Clifton, widening of Gujar and Orangi Nullah, road from Clifton to Bilawal House, construction of road from Mosmiat to super highway, constriction of drain nullah from Shahr-e-Noorjhan to Ziauddin Hospital Chowrangi.
The estimated cost of all these seven projects is Rs 1141.497 million. Moreover, a new scheme "Mehran Highway" has also been introduced; the work will be initiated by the start of next week. Mehran Highway is a 7-km long road, according to approved PC-1 the cost has been estimated Rs 188 million. Mehran Highway is to be constructed from Hospital Chowrangi Landhi to Bhains Colony, Bin Qasim Town and it will make transportation easy from interior parts of county to the city. Along side the highway road of Machine Tool Factory will also be constructed.
Furthermore, halted work on seven development schemes has now also been initiated again. EDO works and services Latif G Memon said that construction of broad and wide roads on metropolitan city is to be started. He said all projects would be completed within stipulated time besides delaying in uplift work would not be acceptable.
