Government of Pakistan has declared 2011 as textile year, hence the industrial sector should come forward with a renewed vigour to achieve its objectives, but government should also facilitate exporters and fulfil its commitment for the revival of the textile sector.
This was stated by Chaudhry Shahzad Siddique, the newly elected vice chairman of Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, here on Saturday. Addressing the annual general meeting, he said that textile is the mainstay of national economy but due to multiple international and domestic factors, it is passing through a deep crisis. He said that government is fully aware of the importance of the textile sector and in this respect, 2011 was declared textile year with clear objective to revive this vital segment of national economy.
However, Chaudhry Shahzad Siddique pointed out the commitment of the government to continuous supply of electricity and gas in addition to resolving its other problems on top priority basis. Instead of fulfilling its commitments, government enhanced the duration of gas load-shedding. Adding, he said that the textile exporters are seriously making efforts to increase exports but without government help, it is unable to achieve the targets set for this year.
In his views, Vice Chairman PTEA, Adil Manzoor Elahi was expressed concerns on the deteriorating law and order situation coupled with continuous bomb blasts and suicide hits, which have tarnished the image of the country. He said that private sector alone could not absorb the shocks and Government must come forward with proactive and result oriented strategy to save it from total collapse. On the occasion, the outgoing Chairman PTEA, Wasim Latif presented a detailed report of his performance during the year.
