About 63 percent of Pakistanis believed that Dengue virus is spread through mosquito bites, while others mentioned reasons such as breeding of mosquitoes in garbage and litter, breeding in unclean water or clean water. This was pointed out in a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan.
In a survey a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces were asked the following question, In your view how the Dengue virus is spread? A majority of the respondents 63 percent held the view that it spreads through mosquito bites. However 15 percent of the respondents stated the view that the virus spreads through breeding of mosquitoes in garbage and litter 7 percent stated the view that it spreads through breeding in unclean water. While 4 percent of the respondents mentioned breeding of mosquitoes in clean water as a source of this virus and other miscellaneous reasons 3 percent and 8 percent said they did not know and or chose not to respond.
