Computerisation of Revenue Department: DCO directed to submit progress report

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday directed Lahore District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) to submit a report about progress on computerisation of revenue department record and introduction of a mechanism to end tampering in record. Earlier a law officer informed the court that the DCO Ahad Cheema could not appear before the court because he had a meeting on anti-dengue fever campaign.
He further informed that the patwari Mehboob Sarwar who had demanded illegal gratification from petitioner to issue fard-e-malkiat (mutation deed) had been terminated from service. He said complaints against patwaris could be lodged before assistant commissioners.
At this Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry remarked that the assistant commissioners were not angels and they receive their share from patwaris. The chief justice adjourned hearing of the case till October 10 and directed the DCO to apprise about the progress on the matter.
The chief justice was hearing a petition of Khalid Saeed who said that a bench of the high court had directed patwari of Kahna circle to issue him the fard-malkiat without any delay, but the patwari ignored the orders. He also approached the DCO for the implementation of court orders but in vain. Petitioner therefore sought contempt of court proceedings against the patwari and DCO for not complying with the court orders.
