Dengue epidemic continues to play havoc, as four more people reportedly died due to this deadly virus, while as many as 1100 more people have been tested positive during the last 24 hours. Those died have been identified as Javed Iqbal, Khalil, Javed and Muqaddas. There is no let up in heavy rush of people in the hospitals, as they are thronging for medical tests as well as treatment of dengue.
Those facing the disease are finding it difficult to get admission in government hospitals. As many as 100 fogging machines have reached Lahore from abroad and handed over to City District Government for spray in different areas. Among the total dengue cases, 974 fresh cases of dengue were reported in Lahore putting heavy burden on the available health facilities. The City Government is taking action against those private Labs that are indulged in overcharging in conducting medical tests.
The provincial government has intensified the campaign against dengue virus in consultation with Sri Lankan medical team and a comprehensive strategy has been adopted in this regard. The Sri Lankan experts have described dengue virus as a social issue and in addition to government efforts, the people will also have to play their role for maintaining cleanliness in their houses, streets and surroundings.
Official sources claimed that all out measures are being taken for providing the best medical facilities to dengue patients in hospitals and besides provision of blood test and other facilities, additional staff and machinery has also been made available.The Sri Lankan experts, who have come to Pakistan on the invitation of Chief Minister Punjab for eradication of dengue virus, paid a detailed visit to different commercial areas in the city apart from office of DG Health Punjab. They also guided doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in the fight against dengue. They also collected samples of water from commercial areas of the city and reviewed to explore the possibility of presence of dengue larva there.
Moreover, as many as 44 children admitted in Children's Hospital have been tested positive for dengue virus. Doctors said there is much resistance in children and greater chances of their early recovery, therefore, parents need not to worry. They said that children could be saved from such diseases by ensuring precautionary measures in the houses.
