Locomotives from India: LHC issues notice to federal government

The Lahore High Court on Friday issued notice to the federal government and directed secretary Pakistan Railways to file his reply within two weeks in a petition challenging decision of Pakistan Railways of getting locomotives on lease from India. The court remarked that corrupt officers of railways had looted the department and now poor of the society were facing numerous problems.
A bar member Ansar Jaspal filed the petition and submitted that the federal government decided to get 50 locomotives from India on lease. He said Risalpur factory had the capacity to manufacture 25 locomotives per year, therefore, the government should utilise its own resources instead of seeking help from India. The petitioner prayed to the court to restrain the government from getting the locomotives from the neighbouring country and be directed to utilise national resources.
