22 killed as bus plunges into deep valley

At least 22 people were killed and 18 others injured on Tuesday when an overcrowded passenger minibus plunged into a deep gorge in occupied Kashmir, police said. The accident took place in Ramban district, about a four hour drive from occupied Srinagar.
"In a tragic road accident at Digdol in Ramban district, 22 passengers died and 18 were injured," a police statement said. Police said the driver of the overcrowded bus lost control while negotiating a sharp curve on the main highway connecting Srinagar with winter capital Jammu and other parts of India. "12 critical passengers were airlifted to occupied Jammu, the statement said. It was the second accident of its kind in the scenic Himalayan region within a month. On August 20, some 21 people were killed in a similar accident when a minibus plunged into a gorge in Poonch district.
