THE RUPEE: dollar moves both ways

Rates moved both ways on the currency market on Monday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee inched up versus dollar, gaining five paisa for buying and selling at 87.45 and 87.50, they said.
The Australian dollar, sometimes seen as a barometer of market players' risk appetite, tumbled 1.5 percent in Asia to a three-week low, below its 200-day moving average, as investors fret that the global economy will be dealt a severe blow if the euro zone's debt woes deepen. Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Monday: 74.30/74.45 (previous 74.20-74.32) Call Money Rates: 6.50-10.00 percent (previous 6.00-12.00 percent).
The dollar was trading versus the Indian at Rs 46.56, the US currency was available at 3.0250 in relation to the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.3880 in terms of the Chinese yuan.

Pound Sterling opened at Rs 140.00 and Rs 141.10 on buying and selling counters, respectively. At the closing, the pound was purchased and sold at Rs 139.80 and Rs 140.80, respectively, as against Rs 140.00 and Rs 140.80 of Saturday, the dealers said.
The dollar opened at Rs 87.05 (buying) and Rs 87.25 (selling) against last week's rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 87.05 (buying) and Rs 87.25 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.45 (buying) and Rs 138.60 (selling) against same overnight value. British currency did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.45 (buying) and Rs 138.60 (selling).
