National Assembly and Senate await stormy sessions tomorrow (Monday) following allegations and counter-allegations by former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulqar Mirza followed by MQM's chief Altaf Hussain press conference. The two houses of the Parliament have been summoned on Monday in the evening. Various political parliamentary parties called their meetings for the upcoming stormy sessions.
Awami National Party (ANP), which was mainly targeted by the MQM chief during his Friday press conference, has called its parliamentary party meeting at the parliament house ahead of the sessions of the two houses. The party's sources said that ANP's chief Asfadyar Wali Khan will chair the meeting, in which the party would make strategy for the upcoming sessions of National Assembly and Senate particularly with regard to the allegations levelled by MQM's chief.
The sources further said that the ANP, which showed serious reservations on the ongoing efforts by the ruling PPP to bring MQM back in the coalition, would also deliberate upon the matter and make its future strategy in this regard.
The major opposition party in the Lower House-PML-N has also summoned its parliamentary party's meeting at the parliament house to make strategy for the sessions of the two houses of the parliament. The PML-N has also submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly to discuss the Karachi unrest with particular reference to the allegations levelled against MQM's chief Altaf Hussain and Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
The party's sources said that leader of the opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan would initiate the heated debate on Karachi situation if the motion in this regard was adopted, in which he would also respond to the allegations levelled against PML-N leadership by MQM's chief.
Analysts are of the view that though PPP leadership distanced itself from the allegations levelled by Dr Zulfiqar Mirza but it would be very difficult for PML-N and ANP to remain silent over it and they would likely to ask the government to explain its position on the serious allegations.
PML-N has already demanded of the government to form a judicial commission on the allegation levelled by Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and the insiders said that the party would reiterate its demand to probe the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Special Committee of the National Assembly on law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta would also meet on Monday to finalise its terms of references (TORs) which would also be presented in the House on the same day.
Political analysts further opined that the upcoming sessions of the two houses would likely to witness heated debate particularly on the Karachi situation following back-to-back allegations by Zulfiqar Mira and Altaf Hussain.
