Law Enforcement Agencies on Saturday claimed to have detained over 35 suspects and recovered weapons in separate search operations in various parts of the metropolis here. According to sources, heavy contingents of rangers, female personnel, commandos and police had initially reached Agra Taj, Behar colony, Umar Lane and Mira Naka to conduct search operation but faced strong resistance from the inhabitants, who resorted to aerial firing to express resentment against the said act.
They burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the LEAs and alleged them to have detained innocent people. The LEAs finally kicked off search operations late at night at Agra Taj, Behar colony, Umar Lane and Mira Naka and detained some 15 suspects and recovered weapons.
They said the LEAs then extended its search operations to other parts of the city. They cordoned off Five-star Complex, Gulshan Iqbal, Al-Faleh, Kehkasha Society, Shah Faisal Town, Maripur and Baldia Town where over 20 persons were detained and two Kalashnikovs, two repeaters, four TT pistols and several rounds were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, Garden police claimed to have arrested three alleged culprits including Rashid Baloch, Gul Muhammad and Muhammad Aslam and recovered three TT pistols and heroin from their possession. The police officials said a case has been registered against the alleged and further investigation in progress.
