The volume could be higher, according to traders who were making initial estimates. Algeria does not publish details of its import tenders.

OAIC paid prices ranging between $209.25 and $213 a tonne, cost and freight included, the traders said.

Traders cited strong competition between French and Argentine origins, which were expected to be chosen to fill the order.

Shipment is due in March, except if Argentine wheat is supplied, in which case the wheat should be shipped in February.
