Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People's Freedom League (JKPFL), Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has expressed grave concern over the fate of his party's Chief Organiser, Muhammad Altaf Khan. Altaf was arrested from his home in Bandipora by Rashtriya Rifles of Indian army and Kashmir police and later handed over to Special Police Task Force (STF).
Rehmani feared that since the public record of the STF is not good, they could harm the arrested leader. He said Altaf Khan is ill and must be treated well and released immediately.
He said the regime has given unbridled powers to local police informers even at the village and Mohalla-level, and taking revenge from them and collecting bribes from the families of the political victims.
JKPFL chief further blamed the regime for trying to squeeze the organisation, whose popularity at the grass-root level has unnerved it and its vested political interests. Otherwise, there is no reason for launching a police drive for re-arresting the party General Secretary, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, who was released only last month after a year of detention, and raiding his house. He said since corruption is rooted in the police-cobweb from top to bottom; therefore political workers and civilians have become an easy prey to the lust of the policemen and officers.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the current state of affairs, saying that a corrupt regime with a corrupt police-info system would always sabotage restoration of peace in Kashmir. Peace, which is essential for the resolution of the dispute.
