Taiwan stocks closed up 0.9 percent on Tuesday, with Hon Hai Precision Industry up by the daily maximum after the company's operating profit margin showed signs of recovery in the second quarter. The main TAIEX index rose 68.18 points to 7,646.19, after opening up 1.01 percent.
Electronics shares advanced 1.33 percent, lifted by Apple plays. Camera phone lens maker Largan Precision and metal casing maker Catcher Technology were both limit up. Acer soared 6.32 percent while Compal jumped 5.3 percent. The financial sub-index climbed 0.33 percent, however Far Eastern International Bank erased early gains and fell 0.37 percent after announcing a plan to buy ING Groep NV's Taiwan brokerage and wealth management units.
