Collection of fitra, hides by political parties: MoI contemplating imposing ban, says Rehman

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) is contemplating imposing a ban on political parties in the country on collecting Fitra and skins of sacrificial animals, and making it mandatory for all political parties to provide details of donations they receive, and from where, said Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik while talking to newsmen here on Saturday.
Addressing a meeting with business community at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that he would send a summary in this regard for approval of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and later a bill would be introduced in the National Assembly for approval. Malik said that he would discuss the issue with all political parties and take them into confidence on the issue.
He said that it has been decided to arrest all members of the family, excluding women and children, from where illegal arms will be recovered. He further announced that Station House Officers (SHOs) of police stations will be arrested if they fail to remove political parties' flags in their respective jurisdictions in the next 48 hours.
He said that it was his 7th meeting with business community and he was briefing them on prevailing law and order as well as ongoing operation against target killers and extortion mafia in the city. The minister said that the President and Prime Minister have given clear instructions to clear Karachi of criminals, target killers and extortion mafia and provide conducive environment for economic activities.
The minister said that extortion mafia was demanding 25 percent share in business and Rs 75 per head from each individual of household. He said that a targeted surgical operation is in progress in 9 different areas of the city and more than 378 people were arrested. Out of them, only 12 were target killers and rest either belong to extortion mafia, criminals and kidnappers. Investigation is in progress and some of them may be innocent.
He said that after completion of investigation they would be produced before media. Some of the criminals are trying to take cover of political parties whereas all their acts are as individuals and no political party is behind them, he added. The minister said that during investigation one of the target killers said that he killed more than 400 people.
Malik said during the operation in some areas women and children acted as human shield. Operation will be carried out irrespective of resistance and political party's area. The law enforcing agencies have power to search every house even if it belongs to some powerful and influential person. About arrest by FIA of two persons who arrived from Sri Lanka, he said that the report is baseless and nobody has been arrested on arrival from Sir Lanka with the name of Waseem, neither any report was sent to the UK in this regard.
