The Insurance Association of Pakistan (IAP) while referring to the matter of payment of Federal Excise Duty and Sindh Sales Tax on Services rendered by the insurance companies has requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) to settle the issue.
In a letter to FBR and SRB, regarding the issue of Federal Excise Duty and Sales Tax on Services rendered by the insurance companies, the IAP said that as per the present position both the statues are applicable. The FBR and the SBR would have to mutually agree upon the agency entitled to collect tax on aforesaid services.
"In the present status there is concurrent right that leads to duplicate levy and charge under the law," the IAP said, adding that "You would agree that such status can not prevail." "We have been consistently following up the matter and have repeatedly requested both the agencies to settle the issue," the letter said. The matter has not yet been settled, it added.
"We request both the agencies to take up the matter immediately and let us know the agency entitled to collect the tax," the IAP requested. The IAP also said that an urgent action on the matter will be highly appreciated and in the meantime the date of payment of tax on such services be extended to the date when the matter is settled.
