The Karachiities confined to their homes on Tuesday, were further perturbed with frequent power breakdowns despite a few commercial activity in the city. The citizens complained that Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) continued with its Loadshedding schedule, although all commercial centres were closed and presumably most factories were also non functional due to "Mourning Day" called by MQM.
"Yet we were provided no respite," Masooda Haq, a teacher told APP. She also negated that the impression created by KESC authorities that Loadshedding was resorted in the areas that had higher incidence of power theft and cases of power loss. "This is absolutely wrong you can verify this through the electricity bills paid by us," said Haq, a resident of Manghopir. Her next door neighbour said it was the failure of KESC itself to control the cases of power theft and line losses. "Public is being made to pay for the failures of KESC," said Hoor Noorani.
Former senator and senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party, Taj Haider agreed with the complainants. "This approach to penalise all people of an area with low collection rates smacks of a tribal culture," remarked the political activist. Each sub-station of the company has its own meter and this can be helpful to gauge the difference between power consumed and tariff paid for the same in the concerned area. "A proper synchronisation between meters installed at each house and the sub station of the area can help gauge the difference and identify the culprits," said the former senator.
