Industrial activities in all the five industrial states of the city remained paralysed on Tuesday as MQM called for mourning day against the recent bloodshed in the city Amid panic and sporadic incidents of firing, burning vehicles and property also gripped panic amongst people.
There was no let-up and the violence claimed several lives also on Tuesday and life was paralysed the whole day. Public transport is off the roads and all the main markets are closed across the city and people are facing problems to find transport to reach offices. Almost all patrol stations remained closed in the city. The Karachi University postponed examinations scheduled for Tuesday.
Industrialists said that chaos and violence sends wrong message to both local and foreign investors and tourists. Industrialists said Bhata mafia sabotaging peaceful atmosphere in city. Government should take decisive step against terrorists in the national interest. A city from where 80 percent of exports of various products are made and generate about 70 percent of the country s total revenue should not be left at the mercy of Bhata mafia
Due to the closure of petrol pumps and CNG stations the absence of public and private transport majority of the people failed to attend duty in private and government offices. Trading at the fruit and vegetable market (New Sabzi Mandi) was also affected due to unavailability of transport. Movement of export goods from industries to ports, dispatching goods to up country remain suspended.
The industrialists said that the city administration, provincial and federal governments have to be efficient on the issue. They should not be puppets in the hands of Bhata mafia. One-day closure of Karachi, as a hub of industrial, trade and commercial activities, caused one to 14 billion rupees losses to national exchequer. One billion revenue is solely generated from taxes and duties.
They said that political leadership, it is time to show great determination and resolve to amicably settle disputes and forsake involving in petty personal matters and political mileage keeping in view regional situation and conspiracies of foes. They said the leadership must show moral courage and magnanimity and rise above party politics, not to be emotional but pragmatic, whose actions must reflect patience, tolerance, reconciliation and co-operation. They said to cope with and end this uncertain situation efficient, honest and competent officers be recruited and deployed to the sensitive and largest industrial city.
